Employees Are Not Salary Just Because You Say They Are and Personnel Files – Aztara Group

Part 1 – Salary vs. Hourly: There is an important distinction between salary and hourly employees that many employers often misunderstand. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires employers to pay employees overtime if they work over 40 hours in a one week period however if they are salary they may be exempt. In this workshop, we will be discussing the three tests an employee must pass for possible exemptions to this law, when you can dock an exempt employee’s salary, and more. Part 2 – Personnel Files: Few of us enjoy dealing with paperwork, but taking the time to properly create and maintain your personnel files will pay off in the long run. You will have all of the important documents relating to each employee in one place, easily available when it's time to make decisions on promotions or layoffs, to file tax returns, or to comply with government audits.
